Ed Sheeran’s love life, marriage and song he wrote about an ex

- Anthony Turner/Gleaner Writer

WITH FEATURE stories in People Magazine, USA Today, US Magazine and numerous other global publications, the million-dollar question that fans want answered is, did Ed Sheeran get married to fiancée Cherry Seaborn?

While he has not given a definitive answer to the question, he hinted at it during his recent interview with Access Online by pointing to a ring on his finger when asked if he had picked a date for his wedding.

The notoriously private singer who had one of the biggest songs, Shape of You, in 2017, announced his engagement in January. The dancehall-infused, Grammy Award-winning song debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, selling 240,000 downloads and 20 million streams in its debut week in the United States. It peaked at number one on the singles charts in 34 countries, and in September 2017, became the most streamed song on Spotify, with more than 1.32 billion streams.

To get an insight into his love life, we spoke with his cousin Jethro Sheeran (aka Alonestar). The two recorded three songs ( Raise ‘Em Up, Real Life & Outlaw) for the #1 Billboard reggae album Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica , a collaboration album that features Jr Gong Marley, Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Sizzla and Sean Kingston.

“I’m not allowed to speak on the fact of whether Ed got married or not because it is a family matter,” Jethro told The Gleaner. “I will say that when his marriage is officially made public, Ed will be taking a break from music to focus on having a family,” he added.

DATING EXPERIENCE

Jethro said that while Ed is a global superstar who has his choice of women to date, things were much different growing up.

“Growing up, girls didn’t really like Ed until he got his first record deal. His first album was literally about his relationship with his first serious girlfriend.”

Jethro explained that after Ed became famous, he had a celebrity crush and eventually a love affair with Ellie Goulding, which would forever change his interaction with women.

They had a really bad breakup, and this caused Ed to write the song Don’t mess with my Love. He then had another serious relationship with a girl who broke up with him after the Brit Music Awards, because of his partying behaviour at the time, and the fact that he was going on tour for a year.

After the break-up, he reunited with Cherry Seaborn, to whom he is currently engaged, possibly married to.

Speaking about the relationship with Seaborn, Jethro said, “The truth is he (Ed) never had a relationship with her in high school. She was the girl he had a crush on but didn’t get,” he explained.

“Ed is into long marriage and relationships as we were raised Catholic. Our grandparents were married until death, and Ed’s parents were married before he was born and are still together today,” Jethro shared.
