A man of many hats
EASTON DOUGLAS was the greatest advocate of the valuation profession. Although he wore many hats and was trained in many disciplines, he was at heart a valuer and he therefore championed the merits of the profession he loved.
Douglas is a founding member of the Association of Land Economy and Valuation Surveyors (and we believe he is personally responsible for its allencompassing lengthy name). He found comfort in our association meetings and events where he was able to exercise his intellect by bringing valuable discourse and critical thinking on historic and relevant subject matter whenever he attended. His valuable contribution was always welcomed and to the benefit of all attendees – in particular – the younger members who he encouraged to seek continuous education and professional advancement.
Douglas was also a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and took great pride in this. He always attended our regional and international events and oftentimes took over the proceedings as he was always more than willing to share from his vast professional experience.
Douglas gave service to his country and his people. He was extremely civic minded and versatile in his thoughts. He would always share his broadly relevant views on rural development as well as on urban renewal. He therefore rose to lofty heights in government service and in the political landscape.
We the members of the Association of Land Economy and Valuation Surveyors mourn the passing of a great member and an even greater Jamaican.
