The perfectionist

-

THIS BOLD gentleman who represents the true essence of the word was at the time we met in 1989, a professional in his craft and also as a politician representing the People’s National Party.

My tribute speaks to our relationship in respect of his professional life as a Chartered Valuation Surveyor. I represent Alfrasure Structures and Roofing Limited and my relationship with Easton Douglas, the perfectionist, who at this time was at the top of his game as a Chartered Valuation Surveyor. Easton Douglas & Associates was not the only company of Chartered Valuation Surveyors to whom we outsourced projects. However, when the stamp of Easton Douglas & Associates authenticated our reports our clients were assured of the validity of these documents. Any, under his signature, would be professional in all aspects:

1. It’s presentation, including the paper used

2.The language

3. Its incisiveness

4.The detailed research and resultant

information, and

5. As a government town planner one can only remember the discussion regarding land use for Housing and Urban Planning. That was his forte.

As a part of any discourse or as audience, it was a privilege to participate, or absorb this flow of knowledge. In addition, to the above this worthy gentleman over his life would almost be unmatched for his sartorial elegance.

The era of Easton Douglas meant that you participated with a man of class who ensured ‘the nuts and bolts’ of a project were in place, and portrayed in the Queen’s English that made it worthy of international standing. Anyone who had the privilege of being in this humble gentleman’s company was assured of being exposed to ‘quality’, and his meticulous obsessiveness to what is right and good. Mediocrity was not in the vocabulary or

modus operandi of this gentleman. In a discussion, his voice would hardly exceed being even toned and quiet, but there would be no doubt of his authority, integrity and familiarity with any topic that he discussed.

This gentle, humble giant has been a gift to Jamaica both as a Chartered Valuation Surveyor and as a servant of Jamaica.

We now remember this stalwart and extend sincere condolences to his family and staff on his death. Walk good Easton. May your soul rest in peace.
