Ninety-five of the 104 persons who on August 1, Independence Day, this year, had been given honours and awards in recognition of services rendered in the various spheres of activity in the nation, are presented with their insignia at the ceremony. Before the ceremony began, a guard of honour of the 2nd Batallion, the Jamaica Regiment, resplendent in their uniform of crimson, gold and black, formed on the lawns of the gracious residence, bathed in the radiant morning sunshine. The guard marched on to music played by the Band of the 2nd Batallion and the Corps of Drums of the 2nd Batallion and took up position behind the stand on which Glasspole stood.
