Jevarney Abraham encourages healthy lifestyle practices
A RECENT high-school graduate, Jevarney Abraham held several leadership roles at Lacovia High in St Elizabeth. He served as prefect, then deputy head boy and head boy. He now wants to use those experiences as encouragement for Jamaicans to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Jevarney’s focus is to create opportunities for unemployed persons in and around his community of Longwood Estates, Santa Cruz. He hopes to open a healthy-lifestyle restaurant, just one of his many entrepreneurial pursuits.
“I am very passionate about food and also about maintaining healthy lifestyle practices. I want to capitalise on the skills I have and contribute to helping Jamaicans to eat healthy,” said the 21-year-old, who recently graduated from high school.
Jevarney’s journey in food began two years ago.
“It all started by cooking raw chicken one day. You have to do your research and learn from what you have attained,” he shared.
He was encouraged to enter PAN 2018 after attending the grand final at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre last year.
PLACING SECOND
“After seeing all the excitement at PAN 2017, I paid keen attention to how CB Foods has been creating opportunities for pan-chicken men and women and opening doors for small entrepreneurs. That motivated me to enter, so I said, why not do it?”
Entering PAN 2018 has paid rich dividends for Jevarney, who emerged in second place for the parish of St Elizabeth at PAN 2018 Regional 2 a few weeks ago. The win took him by surprise.
“I felt excited about coming second because it has been a great journey for me. A lot of hard work went into it, and I wasn’t expecting the win, but God did it’, said Jevarney.
Jevarney does pan chicken during the festive season in the town of Santa Cruz. He also works part time with a restaurant.
“I studied food and nutrition, tourism, and entrepreneurship during my final year at Lacovia High. I have been waiting on something like this for a long time, and I know I have what it takes to be a winner at the grand final of PAN 2018,” Jevarney confided.
And what’s his game plan going into the grand final?
“I need to capitalise on my timing. I see where I went down badly where the sauce was concerned, so I am working on perfecting that recipe and making a vast improvement. I am also going to put in some more work with the chicken using different herbs and spices.”
