ICWI relaunches Road Angel policy
The Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI) is relaunching the highly touted Road Angel policy as part of the company’s 50thanniversary celebrations.
The 35-year-old programme is ‘going pink’ for the year-long celebrations with $1,000 being donated from each new Road Angel policy subscriber towards organisations that assist persons affected by breast cancer.
Between October 2018 and October 2019, each new customer under the policy, designed to recognise safety-conscious female drivers, will be helping the fight against breast cancer.
According to ICWI president Paul Lalor, the new drive to raise funds to increase assistance for persons affected by breast cancer is a reflection of their commitment to the cause.
“We have been deeply involved with the fight against breast cancer for some years now as we have been the title sponsor of the ICWI Pink Run for four years, and we also partnered with the late Suzanne Couch and her daughter for the staging of the Hope In The Hills concert. The funds raised at these past events have been critical to saving the lives of many Jamaicans, so we are even more excited to announce this venture,” he said.
Lalor also indicated that a large percentage of his company’s staff members being women has influenced the company’s continued pledge to support persons affected by breast cancer both in Jamaica and throughout the region.
“With a workforce where 90 per cent of our staff are women, we are well aware that a startling one of 21 women in Jamaica is affected by breast cancer. Therefore, it was important that we showed our support by introducing programmes such as this,” he said.
“The Road Angel policy was introduced over 35 years ago to recognise safety-conscious female drives. It is very fitting for this policy to now give back to the thousands of Road Angels who we have had the honour to serve over the past 50 years,” he added.
Although October is recognised worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the relaunch of ICWI’s Road Angel policy will shine a bright light on this life-threatening illness throughout the year.
