Continue to grow in service to the nation
THE MINISTRY of Health congratulates Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited on its 50th anniversary. In the last half a century, Biomedical has shown itself committed to the health sector, progressively enhancing its operations to improve the delivery of care to patients.
With 50 collection centres and now, 140 employees, the entity has been providing comprehensive laboratory services since 1968. The quality of its offerings is evidenced by its receipt of accreditation status from the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation, having met the required international standard of ISO15189 that governs medical laboratories.
Biomedical also participates in external proficiency testing with the Medical Laboratory Evaluation programme provided by the American College of Physicians, Randox International Quality Assessment Scheme American Proficiency Institute, United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Services, and National Microbiology Laboratory.
Further, the laboratory boasts the use of cutting-edge methods and technology to offer services to clients, including a Laboratory Information System for data management. This is to be commended. Technological advancement is critical for the delivery of quality healthcare.
TIMELY, RELIABLE SERVICE
Its expertise is rooted in the dedication to equipping physicians with timely, high-quality laboratory tests and services that make improved patient care possible. The lab, I know, is also keen on the implementation of new tests that provide additional clinical information.
They provide, too, mobile phlebotomy services to homebound-patients, patients with frequent orders, those with busy schedules, and those with transportation challenges. This is in addition to the offer of 24-hour emergency service, including on weekends and public holidays. We see here evidence of the type of sensitivity to the needs of a varied clientele and a willingness to meet their needs where they are.
I thank the management and staff of Biomedical for their stellar work over the years. May they continue to grow from strength to strength in service to the people of Jamaica. DR CHRISTOPHER TUFTON

Managing Director implementation of new tests that provide additional clinical information and utilises state-of-the-art methods and cutting-edge technology. The staff is friendly and approachable and provides an atmosphere where patients can feel comfortable and relaxed.
The technical developments have been there over the past 50 years, but there is no doubt that they will be eclipsed in the next 50 years. With that challenging and stimulating thought in mind, there needs to be an enthusiastic and constant participation by all members of the team in order to maintain the high standard
