Errol Moo Young solo exhibition opens December 1

AFTER A 13-year-hiatus, fine artist Errol Moo Young will showcase his works at a solo exhibition, which will open on Saturday, December 1, at Grosvenor Gallery in Manor Park.

The exhibition will be officially opened by Dr Aggrey Irons and will run until Saturday, December 15.

Trained as a graphic artist, Errol Moo Young is essentially selftaught as a fine artist. Much of his artistic development was achieved through reading and frequent visits to museums and galleries, especially while studying in the United States.

INFLUENCES

He cites Paul Klee as one of his major influences and shares with him an interest in the metaphysical, a strong lyrical sense, and a preference for small works. Yet, instead of the detached whimsy of Klee’s work, Errol Moo Young’s work has more anguished, humanist overtones, akin to the work of Francis Bacon and Graham Sutherland and contemporary Jamaican artists such as the late Eugene Hyde and David Boxer.

Many of his works originated as pages from his sketch books, which also contain notes and newspaper clippings. His works includes mixed media techniques combined with collage elements, creating multi-layered, semi-abstract textured surfaces. Some of these techniques, such as photo montage and the use of tracing pens, are borrowed from graphic art.
