Changing lives, transforming communities in Montego Bay

-

AFTER A decade in the city of Montego Bay, the University of the West Indies, Mona – Western Jamaica Campus (UWI Mona-WJC) has established itself as a beacon in the region.

Focused on the holistic development of its students to function in and serve societies locally, nationally and internationally, UWI-Mona WJC, through the Office of Student Services and Development, has been providing developmental opportunities, qualitative learning, and support services for the student body.

The areas of focus include, but are not limited to, leadership, culture, service, and sports.

Students have been working with the homeless through initiatives like Operation Sunday Dinner, volunteering at the Community of Upliftment for the Mentally Ill, ilovemobay, and the Women’s Centre of Jamaica.

Approximately 30 outreach projects were staged in communities such as Salt Spring, Glendevon, Flankers, and Norwood.

Our environmental and sustainable development participation includes international coastal clean-ups and Labour Day projects, as well as partnerships with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the Cornwall College Red Cross for the painting of the John Rollins Success Primary School and the Charles Gordon Market.

UWI Mona-WJC has also developed a reputation as a reliable employee selection hub for stakeholders in the tourism, health and the business processing outsourcing sectors.

Through sports, we have been able to support community development initiatives by participating in football competitions locally.

Our presence in Montego Bay will be indelible, and it is our aim to continue to serve and support the development of the city through intentional, innovative and sustained initiatives.
