All female line-up for Live From Kingston

- Kimberley Small/Gleaner Writer

FOR THE next instalment of Live From Kingston, entrepreneur Jason Panton and reggae artiste Protoje have curated a line-up like never before. On December 22 at Skyline Levels, Koffee, Lila Ike, Naomi Cowan and Yanah will headline the concert that has a reputation of launching stars.

Acknowledging the obvious difference from most other showcases, the artiste prefers to ignore the performer’s gender – and, instead, highlight the variety

to be seen on the upcoming show. “It’s quite a diverse line-up. I wouldn’t even call them four reggae artistes. I just think they are four young Jamaican artistes trying different sounds, doing their thing,” he told The Gleaner.

The reggae revivalist explained that each act, he thinks, will bring something different to the table. “For Koffee, we know her lyrical ability, her flows and patterning. She’s really good at that. Lila can freestyle over any riddim, and still have that soulful sound. Naomi Cowan – I loved her single Paradise Plum, I was really impressed by it. Yanah is a very new artiste coming out – a different type of sound. I’m interested in seeing what she’s gonna do.”

One of In. Digg. Nation’s own, Sevana, is noticeably absent from the line-up. “She has done Live From Kingston twice before, so I just wanted to mix it up a bit – put another artiste or two who have not done it before. But you know Sevana is family, so it’s very possible that a Sevana sighting will occur,” Protoje said.

Both Naomi and Yanah, are excited about the production. “I feel like I’ve had this conversation with other female artistes in the past – about how dope it would it be if we all hit the road together. I already dreamt it, and I see it manifesting,” Naomi said.

Yanah added, “I’m quite excited, and I honestly didn’t imagine I’d be on an all-female line-up any time soon. I’m just excited to expose how talented us women are, and how powerful we are. Perhaps we are not seen as powerful enough because we are not given a chance, and this is a grand opportunity to showcase our strength and put on an excellent show.”
