Red Stripe recognises media practitioners for volunteerism
THE LUSH scenery overlooking the ocean at Victoria Pier, resonating sounds filling the atmosphere, and good vibes and laughter perfectly describe the ambiance of a special brunch hosted by Red Stripe in recognition of the tireless work of volunteers in media on International Volunteers Day.
The special event was hosted at Gloria’s Seafood City to honour media practitioners who actively give their time to charity and continue to make an impact through philanthropy.
The Gleaner Company Media Limited’s entertainment editor, Nashauna Lalah, was recognised for her contribution to the Council of Voluntary Social Services; cofounder of Phase 3 Productions Dr Marcia Forbes was called out for her role as chairman of United Way of Jamaica; freelance journalist at Television Jamaica and marketing and communications manager at the Factories Corporation of Jamaica Dara Smith was recognised for her long-standing contribution to Jamaica AIDS Support for Life; and Gerrard McDaniel, host of Radio Jamaica’s ‘Palav’, was the lone male honouree, singled out for his commitment to the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities.
The proceedings ended with a performance by reggae artiste Tosh Alexander, who, features Red Stripe’s Journey Eith Stripe EP, but not before a surprise donation was made to the volunteers, who were pleased to each receive $100,000 towards their respective charities.
Red Stripe celebrated the spirit of volunteerism, which perfectly aligns with the brand’s Stand Up For Your Stripe campaign launched this summer.
