Falmouth gets KFC for Christmas

FALMOUTH, THE nation’s cruiseshipping hub, became home to the country’s 36th KFC outlet when Mark Myers, the managing director of Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ), opened the door to the new location on Champion Plaza on the town’s Market Street.

“Falmouth wi reach. We rented 4,200 square feet of space from the operators of the plaza and built our signature building at a cost of $200 million. We heard Falmouth’s call over the years and have responded with a new location,” said Myers.

“We are committed to supporting western communities through employment [and] support of local vendors and distributors. This new opening has provided employment for 50 persons,” he added.

Falmouth’s mayor, Councillor Colin Gager, described getting the new KFC outlet in the Trelawny parish capital as a significant development in the town’s bid to expand on its commercial appeal.

“The municipality welcomes ROJ to Falmouth. It is a significant development in the hub of commercial activities in this town, which is prime for growth,” said Gager. “Already, we are in discussions with the company to help support projects here in Falmouth. As soon as the logistics can be worked out, they will be involved in the feeding of the street people here in our town.”

Myers said that ROJ is delighted to play a role in the feeding of the homeless.

“We are looking forward to working with the municipality on its feeding programme,” said Myers. “Over the years, we have been donating over $25 million worth of foodstuff annually to various organisations, like the Salvation Army.”

As a show of their gratitude, residents of Falmouth turned out in large numbers to welcome the new KFC outlet and to get their first sampling of home-town ‘finger-licking’ goodies.
