‘Support the Reggae Girlz!’
THE JAMAICA Football Federation (JFF) is pulling out all the stops to galvanise support for the Reggae Girlz ahead of their debut Women’s World Cup later this year.
The Federation recently named an all-woman Special Projects Team that is tasked with raising awareness of the team and organising fundraisers as they prepare to compete in the women’s game flagship football championships in France in the summer.
Yesterday, the JFF named the full list of women in the team chaired by Carole Beckford of Cricket West Indies, with Patricia Garel of the Premier League Clubs Association as the deputy chair. The other members of the team are Sophia Harris, marketing and business development director; Prudence Simpson, The Jamaica Pegasus hotel; Heather Goldson, Supreme Ventures; Carlene Edwards, JN Group; Yvonne Wilks, RJRGLEANER Communications Group; Dahlia Harris, TVJ and DMH Productions; and Jacqui Dobson, Tourism Product Development Company.
FULL SUPPORT
The JFF president Michael Ricketts, in thanking the women for their offer to work on this team, said: “They have the federation’s full support in carrying out their mandate. The campaign is on full throttle, and every event and activity for the women will require the Jamaican fans on and off the island. I have no doubt this group will add the momentum the Reggae Girlz truly deserve.”
The team met this week, and as its first assignment, will focus on the Jamaica vs Chile series to take place in Jamaica, Thursday, February 28, at the National Stadium and then at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in St James on Sunday, March 3. Both games will kick off at 7 p.m.
Tickets for these matches will go on sale on Friday, February 22, and are grandstand, $2,000 and bleachers $1,000 for both games.
Group rates will be available to all corporate and community groups.
