Scotiabank commits J$9 million to Export Max III programme
CORPORATE GIANT Scotiabank has committed J$9 million in sponsorship to the JAMPRO, Jamaica Business Development Corporation and Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association’s export development programme, Export Max III. The financial institution confirmed its support yesterday at JAMPRO’s head office in Kingston.
The sponsorship will support the programme as it aims to bring 50 Jamaicans in the small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) sector closer to their export goals through capacity building and international marketing initiatives such as trade missions.
Scotiabank’s Audrey Tugwell Henry, executive vice-president for retail banking, Caribbean North and Central, said, “Scotiabank is very pleased to partner with the Export Max III programme. For us, small business is an important sector for the bank, and we recognise that this is an even more important sector for the economy, and for Jamaica. Through this Export Max III programme, we believe that as a sponsor, we can help to drive greater exports for Jamaica, because that is the true engine of growth for the economy.”
Diane Edwards, JAMPRO’s president, agreed with the Scotiabank representative, and said that the agency was pleased to welcome the bank’s participation in the initiative. She said, “I’m really excited that Scotiabank has agreed to partner with us for the third iteration of the Export Max programme. We increased exports in the first one by 33 per cent, and then the second by over 200 per cent. This time, we know the sky’s the limit, and we have the right partner with us to build the success of our SMEs going forward.”
