PNP a late non-starter
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT HAS been a little over three years since the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), in a surprising display, defeated the People’s National Party (PNP), in what then was seen as a major upset, to win the February 2016 general election.
It is fair to say that to date, the PNP has not yet fully recovered from that defeat, given the party’s poor performance against the JLP in the recently conducted RJRGLEANER-commissioned Don Anderson polls, which clearly show the PNP well and truly beaten in all areas.
‘ONE-HORSE RACE’
In fact, so dismal has been the showing of the PNP against the JLP that most pundits have described the race thus far to be that of a “one- horse race”, with the PNP having been declared a late non-starter.
With approximately two years to go before the next highly anticipated general election, the question being asked by many diehard supporters of the once seemingly unbeatable PNP is whether or not the orange-coloured party, under the guidance of veteran handler Dr Peter David Phillips, has what it takes to defeat a fleet-footed and out-of-class-looking JLP under the skilful hands of a young, energetic and sometimes charismatic Andrew Michael Holness, who no doubt will be seeking to win for a second time the coveted race for Jamaica House.
As the old maxim goes: “Only time will tell”. GROSSETT BARRETT grossettbarrett@yahoo.com
