BCIC proud of student athlete support

ISSA/GRACEKENNEDY BOYS and Girls’ Athletics Championships standouts Hydel High school and Jamaica College (JC) were the recent beneficiaries of cash and trophy incentives from insurance providers British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC).

BCIC supported the winning schools at the Digicel Grand Prix Finals/G.C. Foster Classic showdown on March 16, with trophies and cash prizes of $25,000 towards each school’s feeding programme and it already began yielding dividends, as seen last weekend at the 2019 ISSA/ GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.

Hydel pushed Edwin Allen to the brink in the battle for the girls’ title at the championships, losing by a mere seven points, while JC, which finished third in the boys’ standing, saw some excellent performances throughout the campaign, including Christopher Scott, who managed to lower the boys’ Class Three 100-metre record, before securing the sprint double with a gold medal in the 200m event.

PROUD ACHIEVEMENT

BCIC General Manager in charge of marketing, Lori-Ann Glasgow, said the company was proud of its involvement and contribution to the development of the athletes.

“We are excited and proud to be able to contribute in a meaningful way to the growth and development of our young athletes,” said Glasgow.

In keeping with its commitment to promoting youth development through education and sports, BCIC has sponsored several initiatives, such as the AllJamaica Junior Squash Championships, and the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships, with a particular focus on not only raising the awareness of golf in Jamaica, but also providing for opportunities for young women to be involved in the sport through their #GirlsforGolf Initiative.

The company also recently provided the Mount Alvernia High School track and field team, one of the top five ranked girls’ teams in the recent Digicel Grand Prix Athletics Championship in 2018 and 2019, with new running shoes.
