Mothers are the backbone of their families

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IJUST want to congratulate all the mothers who sacrificially take care of their families, through thick and thin. Many mothers are the backbone of their families. They are the nurturers, breadwinners, nurses, and so much more. As a mother, I must say ‘thanks’ for being there for your children. Continue to be strong and courageous, and God will see you through.

One of the Scriptures I love is Matthew 15:21-28, of the Canaanite woman who had great faith in Jesus, knowing that He was able to heal her daughter. Jesus answered her: “You are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you.” And at that very moment her daughter was healed.

As mothers, we need to say as Joshua says: “As for my family and me, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15).

Our responsibility as mothers and parents is great. We have to learn the balance between love and discipline. We are living in a time when some, who call themselves ‘modern thinkers’, are imposing some deviant ideas as to how to grow our children, which is quite opposed to God’s will. Some are trying to outlaw correction and discipline in regard to children’s

behaviour.

WORD OF GOD

But the all-wise and all-knowing God, who has made us, says in His Word that “Correction and discipline are good for children. If they have their own way, they will make their mothers ashamed of them” (Proverbs 29:15). We can never go wrong when we obey God. He is a God of Love, and His laws for us are for our own good. Proverbs 29:17 reads: “Discipline your children and you can always be proud of them. They will never give you reason to be ashamed.”This is the Word of God.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 reads: “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. You will seek me, and you will find me, because you will seek me with all your heart.”

Mothers, the best thing you can ever do for your family is to lead them to God. You will be fulfilling the main purpose we are made for, that is, to serve our Creator. He has good plans for us.
