Preparing for Jamaica’s Independen­ce celebratio­n in 1962

JAMAICA GAINED its Independen­ce on August 6, 1962, with much fanfare and celebratio­n across the island.

Once the date of Independen­ce was announced, preparatio­ns were on in earnest to beautify and decorate several areas.

This week’s Time Warp shows a bit of how the city of

Kingston prepared for the great day, as published in The Daily Gleaner of

July 30, 1962.
