Manhole minefields!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE ARE thankful for the road expansion across the Corporate Area and are periodically tasting the benefit, particularly along Constant Spring Road when the excavation in Manor Park is sometimes paused.

My contention, however, surrounds the corridors that are gradually opening with the manhole covers protruding above the road surface.

These protrusions have created a minefield for motorists, who have to be constantly swinging from lane to lane in an effort to avoid the bumps and their sharp edges. They have actually become more of a nuisance and a road hazard,

which can cause damage to tyres, as well as put the lives of other motorists and pedestrians at risk during avoidance manoeuvres.

This is totally unacceptable and way below the standard we are expecting for the modernising of our roadways, particularly with the fanfare given to the Chinese about their expertise.

The National Works Agency must get involved and have this rectified before a serious accident occurs, or some brilliant mind decides to fix the problem some time after the roads are officially completed.

We should be better than this by now.
