How to beat this summer heat

Beauty tricks and treats

-

OUR DAILY activities are set in the oasis, better known as the tropics. And while we’re pleased to be chillin’ in the West Indies, we just can’t help but frown at the runny make-up, dry, flaky skin or the aftermath of humidity-prone hair fails. The summer is almost over, but your beauty regimen shouldn’t be. Let’s take a look at how you can incorporate necessary and creative beauty tricks and treats that are guaranteed to help you beat this unimaginable heat.

SEAL AND SET:

If you’re a fan of setting spray, then now is the time to use it. And if you’re not, it might be best to look into the technique, especially if you’re one to profile and get all dolled up. Once you’ve finished beating your face into slaying angelic submission, don’t sweat it. Face a new day or take back your starry night by putting the sealing and setting of your make-up into the spotlight.

PRIME TIME:

Before you can seal that beauty deal, set the tone for a solid foundation by investing in a trusty primer. Your flawless face will be the envy of many, and others will appreciate your preserved look.

LASH ME WATERPROOF:

What diva doesn’t want the perfect lashes? The regular ones can prove to be too clumpy for comfort. But why should you sacrifice your signature show-stopping shutter look for this heat? Get your hands, or rather eyes, on a waterproof mascara. Awesome for withstanding the heat and keeping your beauty intact.

MYSTIFY ME:

There has been a growing trend at outdoor day events, such as parties, carnivals and J’Ouverts, to have mists at certain intervals ready and waiting to replenish and revitalise the skin. If the heat is on, and you’re working in the great outdoors, why not try a body mist? You can take the DIY route or you can purchase a mist specific for the body or the face.

RETURN TO BABY POWDER:

Yes, you read right! There’s no greater way to keep you cool than powdering up after drying off from your shower. Want soothe those unsightly cuts, burns, chaffing and bruises that might be caused by the summer’s heat? Apply baby powder to the affected areas and let the healing magic happen!

FACIAL MASKS:

Care to hydrate and brighten the skin? Face masks are a perfect way to ditch the humidity and give your skin the refreshing opportunity to breathe in that well-needed moisture. You could try a DIY cucumber mask to provide that replenishing lift needed or you can seek store-bought ones with aloe vera.

SPF, ANYONE?:

Now more than ever is the time to get your SPF on. Whether for the face or for the body, make it your base lotion of choice to keep your skin glowing, cool, hydrated, protected, and healthy: free of heat-related blemishes and burns.

DEODORISE THOSE ARMPITS:

It should go without saying that during this time of year, it is highly recommended that you wear deodorant. And since we see summer all year round, this should be a daily essential. But these deodorants might be doing more harm than good to tackle the battlefield and go into combat with sweat. So find one that is suitable for your body: absorbent, but free of too many chemicals. krysta. anderson@ gleanerjm.com
