Giving credence to a wrong will not make it right
I WRITE in response to Glenroy Murray’s article ‘Pride gives queers dignity beyond sex’, published on August 6, 2019.
While I feel the pain of the author and his need for validation, there is simply no value in misleading him. Giving credence to a wrong will not make it right.
Human beings cannot unilaterally and arbitrarily define right and wrong. The moral code is transcendent and as much a part of us as our DNA. There are things ‘we can’t not know’. The Furies hunt us down even while we do not recognise them in how we behave. Our consciences, even if seared, are alive and active and still respond to moral wrong, leading us to hurt ourselves and others (the Furies).
Even if society chooses to whitewash how the author lives and identifies himself, he would only become a whitewashed sepulchre. One cannot call on the name of Jesus and not live according to his directives.
