Manchester’s Drizel sends warning to other parish champions

Drizel on winning: “I feel very elated and proud of myself, and I am glad that I made my family, my school, my friends and classmates proud.”

Drizel thinks this is the year she will dominate the national championsh­ip.

“I think I can take nationals because I have the patience, the stability and the knowledge to win,” she said yesterday after coming out on top in the Manchester spelldown.

Drizel to the other parish finalists: “Start packing your bags because I’m coming to win!”

FACTS ABOUT DRIZEL:

– She is coached by her father Barrington Wilson.

– She first entered the competitio­n when she was six years old, when she placed sixth.

– She was parish champion in 2016.

– She is 13 years old and in grade eight.

– She loves to listen to music. – Her favourite song is Versace on the Floor by Bruno Mars.

– Her favourite television show is SpongeBob SquarePant­s.

– She is part of the 4-H Club at Manchester High.

– This is Drizel’s final chance to participat­e in the Bee.

Barrington Wilson is not new to being the coach of a parish champion. He has now six parish championsh­ip titles under his belt, two of which belong to his daughter, Drizel.

Coach on winning: “I’m thrilled! This one is most meaningful to me – my daughter’s win. I regard it as that which has saved my honour. I prayed and asked the Lord to give my daughter another chance, and I am happy that the Lord has answered.”
