COMPOSER’S PROFILE
ARIF COOPER wears many hats as a popular musician, music producer, international disc jock and radio broadcaster for RJR Communications Group (FAME FM). His father was the popular musician Michael Ibo Cooper from Third World who introduced him to the music industry at an early age. He was awarded the opportunity to tour several countries along with the Third World Band as their road crew member.
As years passed, Cooper worked assiduously to build his brand, adding titles such as event promoter, and composer. After lending his musical talents to the development of 2 Hard Records, he re-entered the world of production, writing and directing original music used to produce various types of media entertainment. He wanted to establish a more melodic and smoother sound to Reggae/Dancehall as well as to grow a brand and establish himself as a force in the music industry.
He was a founding member of Syndicate Disco (1992-1997) and Fresh Ear Productions (1997) and was instrumental in the development of the musical careers of Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul, Tami Chynn, Jah Cure, Alaine, Elephant Man, Baby Cham, Demarco, Aidonia, Konshens, Wayne Marshall, Christopher Martin, and Charly Black.
Cooper is known for his unique ability to create timeless music and his
professionalism is next to none. He has composed singles such as ‘Step Out’ performed by Busy Signal, ‘True Friend’ by Demarco, ‘Hold My Hand’ by Sean Paul, ‘Forever’ and ‘JMT (Jamaica Mean Time)’ by Vybz Kartel, ‘One World’ by T.O.K. and many more. He is also known for several successful rhythms such as ‘Guardian Angel’, ‘Relationships’, ‘Worldwide’ and ‘New Money’ to name a few. Cooper received the ‘Top Local Composers Award’ from JACAP as a part of its 21st anniversary celebration in August 2019.
