A culture of service

AS A civil servant, I am proud to celebrate Civil Service Week each year. This year, the theme of Civil Service Week resonates with what has become a central tenet of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, as well as the wider public service – the creation of a culture of service excellence.

The ministry has already begun its journey to developing a culture of service excellence. We made the first step by establishing a Service Excellence Improvement Plan, which is consistent with the national thrust, and we will continue to build on it with the hope that it will be a model that may be utilised by other arms of the public service.

This year’s Civil Service Week theme, ‘Building and Sustaining a Culture of Excellence’, is a dynamic one. It speaks to the importance of continuity, consistency, and a continuous thrust to raise the bar in service delivery. In addition, this theme strikes at the core of policymaking, which, in modern government practice, is predicated on the logical framework, which places results, measurement, and evidence-based decisionmaking at the forefront.

The team at the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service joins with the rest of the civil service in celebrating this special week. We pledge our continued support and congratulate the interministerial team spearheaded by the Strategic Human Resource Management Division, on scheduling an exciting programme of activities across the week.
