A holistic approach to health with Guardian Life

-

IN AN effort to cull the level of unhealthy physical and mental habits within the workplace, Guardian Life Limited recently held its highly interactive and informative Employee Benefits Client Engagement function at the Terra Nova Hotel.

Known for its active role within the health sector, Guardian Life Limited has upped the ante by inviting professionals such as health and fitness coach Shani McGraham, Attorney-at-Law Glory Brown, and Professor Wendel Abel, to touch on the topic of well-being in all areas of life.

Known for her stellar high kicks and the ability to lift three times her body weight, McGraham delivered a presentation on wellness and the workplace that packed a punch. She highlighted numerous unhealthy practices that many are guilty of participating in while at the office.

“You have to believe that you are an investment, and you need to put yourself first,” said McGraham, who had the audience’s undivided attention. The petite mom of three’s ability to code-switch between standard English and Jamaican Creole had the audience laughing as she emphasised the need to find and create balance, which she deemed as a major key to success.

ESTATE PLANNING

Attorney-at-law Gloria Brown gave an unforgettable presentation on estate planning, which was filled with case studies that displayed her wealth of knowledge.

“So many of us are busy sorting out other’s wills and not our own,” said Brown.

Her advice on settling disputes regarding planning one’s estate was well received by several individuals within the crowd, who could be seen nodding in agreement with her sentiments.

As Professor Wendel Abel walked around the Valencia suite, his energy permeated positivity as he lectured on the importance of having an attitude of gratitude for mental well-being. During his ‘Mental Health and You’ presentation, Abel had members of the audience vocalising their personal positive affirmations through a question-and-answer session.

“When you find yourself thinking negatively, you need to catch it, check it, and correct it,” said Abel.

The professor was also able to teach the importance of using the ‘I message’ as a more effective method of communication.

“By speaking about how you truly feel instead of putting the blame on others, persons will be more receptive to what you have to say,” said Abel.

By making wellness and preparation the focal points of the event, Guardian Life Limited succeeded in delivering on its mission to operate as a customer-centric company aimed at meeting the wellness needs of all their clients.
