Transforming Jamaica

- ANDREW HOLNESS Prime Minister

CONGRATULATIONS TO Bellefield High School on celebrating 50 years of service to our great nation through education. Modern education techniques require more than imparting the ability to read and write but crucially, fostering the growth and development of critical thinkers so that our people can truly transform Jamaica and compete in the global environment. Indeed, the society needs people who think critically to develop new ideas that drive innovations, leading to economic growth and development.

Bellefield High has been playing an important role in the educational development of the modern Jamaican student. Nestled in the cool central parish of Manchester, Bellefield High provides strong and commendable teaching and instructional guidance to students. The school has recorded good and satisfactory assessments from the National Education Inspectorate over the past five years, particularly in the areas of the personal and social development of students.

As the leadership of Bellefield moves to further improve academic performances, the curriculum-development programme will be crucial to meeting the needs of the student in the modern technological era. I am pleased that there have been improvements in Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations sittings and excellent performances in some subjects. Additionally, Bellefield must be commended for successfully implementing a productive school farm, which serves as a teaching aid while assisting the school’s feeding programme. I commend the institution’s stakeholders including the leadership of the school, the board, the principal, and teachers, on their dedication to transforming the education sector.

Indeed, the transformation of this country through educational pursuits is one of the cornerstones of the Government’s strategies to make Jamaica the place to live, work, raise families, and do business. Our country is on the right path to economic prosperity. It is, therefore, critical that our educational institutions continue to play their role in building a new Jamaica.

Congratulations once again on 50 years of serving our nation.

God bless the family of Bellefield High School and its stakeholders as you continue to serve and assist in the development of more great leaders.
