Vital to success
I EXTEND warm congratulations to all the Institutions contributing to the programmes for Civil Service Week 2019.
It will come as no surprise to you that I am particularly impressed and encouraged by the chosen theme: ‘Building and Sustaining a Culture of Excellence’, as it resonates with the governor general’s guiding principles for the office, which I have the privilege to direct.
We have sought to embed a culture of excellence in the operations of the office through its people, partnerships, and performance. Each of these three elements is vital to success, but none of them can be effectively sustained without the others.
As you benefit from the events and the thoughtful reflections in which you will engage during the week, and participate in the related activities throughout the month, I trust that you will re-energise the entire membership in the process.
We have every reason to be proud of our public servants, some of whom face particular challenges. Identifying the national good as the primary focus of our attention is an approach which we all need to respect and adopt. Our leaders, at every level, should have the desire to adopt that line of thought and to let their actions reflect it.
I trust you will have a productive, stimulating, and fulfilling programme of activities during Civil Service Week. We pray that our nation will be blessed by the example which you set and by your work as together we build ‘Jamaica, land we love’.
