HAPPILY DALEY AND FOREVER

IT WAS the biggest wedding party ever at Montego Bay’s Iberostar Suites, so much so that the reception took up all of two restaurants at the fabulous all-inclusive resort.

It was the sealing of vows by Dr Michael Daley and Marie Whyte, in a destination renowned for hosting some of the most amazing nuptials.

Daley, an emergency Medicine doctor at John H. Stroger Jr Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, and Whyte, a senior business manager at Rush University Medical Centre, Chicago, both products of the Jamaican soil, met while attending high school in the United States 19 years ago.

Daley, originally from Montego Bay, and Whyte from Lionel Town, Clarendon, punctuated their high-energy wedding with dancehall music, including favourites Koffee’s Toast, Junior Gong’s Beautiful and Shaggy’s Strength of a Woman.

Father of the bride, Barrington Whyte, was a proud parent. In fact, he was over the moon in his toast, heaping praises on the groom whom he said he had the opportunity to give a sound beating at dominoes the first day they met.

“Often it is the children who want the parents to be very proud of them – we are very, very proud of them. Marie has a beautiful smile, a very winsome personality; but behind that personality is a strong woman … as a father, I know that strength, that determination to succeed, that desire to excel,” he said.

Celebrating his daughter’s special day, Whyte predicted she would make a wonderful wife.

The groom’s best man, Anthony Appiah, was lavish in his praise of his best friend, whom he now calls a ‘brother from another mother’, having met at university in 2002 as roommates, where they formed a close bond and became almost inseparable.

He recounted that he and ‘Mike’ surmounted many odds, and noted that Michael managed to persevere through professional and personal circumstances, and how proud he was of him.

“He is one of the best human beings I know; well-rounded, a true scholar,” he said, while noting that Marie herself was the “perfect partner – beautiful and intelligent”.

Daley’s mother, Pauline Holland, in her brief but potent toast embraced the fact that she now has a marvellous woman to call daughter-in-law.

Although she was the one who opened her son’s eyes to

seeing that Whyte was attracted to him, Holland admitted that when she realised they were getting married, she was a bit sad.

“I thought I was losing my son, but then I realised I was gaining another daughter. I love you both,” she told the gathering, which included a large number of persons who flew in from Chicago, New York and Florida to share the occasion.

Holland said she knew her son would be special from the moment she knew she was carrying him.

The couple honeymooned in Hawaii, after spending a few nights at the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara in Rose Hall.
