About the RJRGLEANER Honour Awards
EACH YEAR, the RJRGLEANER Honour Awards recognises the initiative, accomplishment and courage of individuals or organisations that have contributed significantly to improving Jamaica’s quality of life, at anytime in the preceding 12 months, or is likely to bring about such a change in the immediate future. Winners are fêted at two awards functions each, a category luncheon and the gala awards dinner, providing at least two opportunities for them to interact with the organisers and selection committee as well as invite persons who have contributed to their success.
This year, the gala event was held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on
Friday, February 29. It was an exciting night for the organisers, recipients and guests as there are two new elements in the programme for the 2019 awards.
• This is only the second year of the re-branding of the top award – the RG PLATINUM Award.
• This is also the second year of the presentation of the Red Stripe Stand-Up Award.
• Launch of the Quiet Hero programme.
• Tribute to Ernie Ranglin – the Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
• The first time that a community
(August Town) is receiving an award.
For 2019, the selection committee reviewed 102 nominations on December 5, 2019, to arrive at the selections made in the categories of: arts and culture, sport, science and technology, entertainment, business, public service, education, voluntary service, and health and wellness. For 2019, In addition to the nine categories winners, five Special Awards and one Lifetime Achievement Award are being presented. From this list of awardees, the committee then selects the person or organisation which will receive the top award – The RG Platinum Award – atThe RJRGLEANER
