Sasco vs Assassin continues today with the Applause riddim
RECORDING ARTISTE Agent Sasco presents the third staging of Sasco vs Assassin live on his Instagram page at 5 p.m. today. This time around he will be discussing the iconic ‘Applause Riddim’ that featured hits from Sizzla (Run Out Pon Dem), Spragga Benz (Run Tings) and the Billboard-topping Temperature from superstar Sean Paul.
Beginning on April 30 with a review of the Diwali riddim, the series’ second staging was last Saturday, where Sasco and guests engaged in an in-depth analysis of the Stepz riddim. More than 1,500 viewers tuned in to the online session that featured guest appearances from producer Deejay Delano Thomas from Renaissance Disco, and recording artistes Protoje, Wayne Marshall, Tami Chynn and Serani.
The series, the brainchild of the
Hope River hitmaker, is an initiative to educate his fans on classic dancehall ‘riddims’. According to him, there was a desire to encourage young music professionals to examine the tactics of dancehall and to educate them on the genre’s heritage in an effort to get them to create new classics. During the IG Live, Sasco shared that his hit single
Idiot Ting Dat on the Stepz riddim was a freestyle.
“I freestyled the song Idiot Ting Dat and it was the fastest song I ever composed. I didn’t have to think hard to find scenarios to fit the script of the song on this riddim. It grew my career quickly; it’s as if it was played today and the next day it became a big tune,” said Sasco. Deejay Delano also revealed that the riddim was created in his bedroom, while Serani highlighted that it was also built in the same key as the Thunder Clap riddim to fit Capleton’s song called
Or Wah.
The Sasco vs Assassin series follows the success of the artiste’s Red Stripe Live-sponsored Sascoustic Live session where Sasco connected with over 65,000 fans across Facebook and Instagram, achieving a reach of more than 200,000 with greater than 5,000 interactions. “I was excited to do something different, performing to an online-only audience was definitely a first and I enjoyed it. I want to thank Red Stripe for their contribution in making Sascoustic Live a success,” said Sasco immediately after that performance.

While the entertainment industry has been affected by current realities, Agent Sasco highlighted that this might be the birth of new ideas. “It’s a great opportunity to find solutions and explore possibilities that may improve our entertainment industries long term. Who knows, maybe online exclusive events will be a permanent feature of the music landscape even when traditional events return,” he said.
The entertainer is encouraging everyone to stay safe and follow the guidelines to protect themselves and their loved ones, noting that it is everyone’s responsibility and duty to bring the swiftest end to the crisis. Asserting that there is a limit to the ‘social’ in social media, Sasco confesses that he is looking forward to the freedom of movement and connecting with his fans again soon.
