Overseas teachers need retroactive salaries
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I AM a teacher and I have been trying to get my retroactive salary from the Ministry of Education for the last three years. I am presently living overseas, but this does not change the fact that I already worked for this money.
I do feel as though teachers that have migrated are completely neglected by the Ministry of Education. I have tried several media and I am yet to get even one reply. I worked for nine months and got about half of the salary that I was suppose to get, even though my transcript was provided and handed in to the ministry’s office at Heroes Circle.
I do feel that we deserve to be paid just like the other teachers that remained in Jamaica. All the people that I know from my batch have already received their money, so I see no reason I should not get the same pay. I am seeking justice. Teachers who migrated are not rich, we still need to get paid.
