I’m keeping my vote

-

THE EDITOR, Madam:

AS A child growing up with grandparents, one of the lessons I was taught was to be humble. I have seen individuals get caught into a hype and then suddenly fall from grace. This is exactly what’s happening with Prime Minister Andrew Holness. However, it seems the ‘Brogad’ title has blinded him.

When Holness won the last election, as a young person that has never voted in an election, I was hoping to see a change. I told myself I’d look at his performance and then vote in the next (current) election.

I must say that Andrew has failed the young people of Jamaica. From the rampant corruption under his leadership to the current handling of the COVID-19 situation and his Clarks hype, to call election during such a time, it is obvious that the only person Andrew cares about is himself (and family).

I read with utmost dismay that Andrew will allow persons infected with the virus to leave quarantine facilities and their homes to go and vote. If this is not the height of selfishness, I don’t know what is. Basically, he is stating that infected persons can go into the spaces where the chronically ill, those who are virus-free and elderly, will be on election day. However, said persons cannot go to the supermarkets, shops or visit family members. What is the difference between those places and the election facilities, Mr Holness?

After the election, the number of COVID-19 cases will rise exponentially, and the only person to be blamed is Andrew (and his administration). For this election, neither you nor the other party will get my vote, as I am very disappointed.
