He displayed honesty, truth and compassion
IF I were asked to use one word to describe this most progressive, productive figure, and late son of Jamaica, Hector Reginald Dietrich, I would immediately say ‘EXCELLENT’.
Dignity, courage, humility, strength and selflessness are some words to describe our late brother, Hector. He displayed honesty, truth, compassion, perseverance and the importance of keeping a spiritual focus. He knew his calling in life was to make a difference in people’s lives, by working with the young and the old.
Hector was indeed a great family figure, who cared for all in no uncertain way. He fathered many unfortunate children, by way of adoption; many of whom, today, are holding their own, not only here in Jamaica, but in other parts of the world.
Hector wore many hats. When we think of a stalwart in the co-operative movement, he immediately comes to mind. He served as chief executive officer of the National Union of Co-operative Societies for several years. He also served on the board of Radio Jamaica, the Co-operative Credit Union League, as well as director on several credit union boards across Jamaica.
This tribute to Hector attempts to capture his significant contribution to the co-operative movement in several of our Caribbean islands. He would travel once or twice during a given year to lecture, organise and conduct training sessions for the benefit and welfare of all concerned.
Hector was a man of great faith, a gentle giant, who fought gallantly to the end and is now at rest. We will miss his gentle demeanour, helpfulness and kindness to all those in need.
On behalf of my family, I offer sincere condolences to his family, friends and neighbours in Christ.
May his soul rest in peace, and rise in glory. CARMEN M. BROMLEY (MRS) Justice of the Peace
