Services offered by the Diabetes Association of Jamaica
THE DIABETES Association of Jamaica is a non-profit organisation that functions on the work of volunteers and has been providing diabetes care for over 43 years. There is no guaranteed funding; however, we may be in receipt of rare donations. The organisation operates on a fee for services offered at affordable rates.
The main office, located in Kingston, offers a wide range of diabetes-related services by a team of consultants who volunteer their services to help the patients in the management and control of their diabetes.
The team consists of endocrinologists, medical practitioners, ophthalmologists, nephrologists, nutritionists, education officers, psychologists, and health technicians.
In addition to these services, we also offer retinal screening and kidney dialysis.
There is an outreach programme where health screenings and diabetes education/ counselling are offered islandwide.
Health checks (in-house and on outreaches) are as follows:
Blood sugar; blood pressure; A1C (blood sugar control); cholesterol (heart disease); haemoglobin (iron); ECG (heart); microalbumin (kidney disease); Doppler (blood circulation in the feet); body mass index (BMI-weight management); vision screening; and footcare.
We take this opportunity to say thank you to the nurses of the outreach team and Sagicor Foundation for their contribution of our mobile unit.
