The following events took place on May 13 in the years identified:
1925:
A Bill entitled a Law to consolidate and amend the Law relating to Shop Assistants, is introduced in the Legislative Council by the Attorney General and read for the first time. The Bill partly reads that ‘No person employed as a retail selling clerk in any shop within the Parish of Kingston, the district of Cross Roads or the district of Half Way Tree, … shall be engaged in work in such shop before 8:00 am in the morning and after 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
1941:
The Government announces the appointment of three Social Welfare Officers; R.J. McDowell as Senior Social Welfare Officer, Rev. Allan Jacobs and Miss Sybil Hill are appointed as Junior Officers.
1966:
The Senate meet for half an hour, its only business being the passage of the Appropriation Act, 1966, in connection with the Budget already passed in the House of Representatives. Attorney General, Senator Victor Grant pilots the Act through it stages and in doing do, refers to the Budget as “the biggest and best ever”.
1980:
Kingston College (KC), score an impressive 69-run win over Tivoli Comprehensive at Sabina Park to retain the Sunlight Cup, symbol of secondary schoolboy cricket supremacy in the Corporate Area, for the second consecutive year. Tivoli 38 for 5 overnight, chasing a target of 158 lasted only an hour and 15 minutes as KC’s skipper, Marlon Tucker, in a penetrative spell of right-arm off-spin bowling takes four for six off six overs. Finals scores are KC 157 and Tivoli 88. (See related photo below)
