Dr. Victor Elliott

Dr. Victor Elliott, is a graduate of Wolmers High School for Boys. He obtained an initial degree in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry at the University of the West Indies before entering the Faculty of Medicine. He obtained an MBBS in 1996 from the University of the West Indies, and a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Internal Medicine in 2004. He continued further studies in Cardiology through the University of Toronto in 2002-2004 and a specializa­tion in Interventi­onal Cardiology 2005-2006.

On his return to Jamaica, Dr Elliott was the sole interventi­onal cardiologi­st in the public system from 2006 - 2014. He is currently a Cardiologi­st and interventi­onal cardiologi­st at the University Hospital of the West Indies and at Partners Interventi­onal Centre of Jamaica, a private interventi­onal centre located at Medical Associates Hospital in Kingston. A current member of the managing council of the Caribbean Cardiac Society. Has a love for wine and photograph­y.

HIS OTHER ROLES INCLUDE:

• Consultant of Internal Medicine and Cardiology, UHWI;

• Associate lecturer Faculty of Medicine, UWI since August 2007;

• Council member of the Caribbean Cardiac Society since 2009;

• Director of the cardiology catheteriz­ation and interventi­onal program, UHWI 2007- 2018

DR. ELLIOTT HAS ACHIEVED SEVERAL MILESTONES TO DATE AS FOLLOWS:

• Performed the rst Primary PCI in Jamaica in 2007

• Performed over 1000 coronary interventi­onal cases via the radial route.

• Performed renal artery stenting for renal artery stenosis.

• Involved in the developmen­t of a peripheral interventi­onal program at the UHWI.

• Initiated and directed the training of 5 medical nurses as cardiac catheteriz­ation nurses for emergency response during/ post Cricket World Cup 2007.

• Helped to organize and taught in the rst ever cardiac nursing program at the UHWI, 2011.

• Performed the rst PCI in Jamaica involving a cutting balloon and a coronary aspiration device (Export Catheter) and drug coated intracoron­ary balloons.

• Deployed the rst Xience V, Endeavor Sprint, Resolute and Platinum Chromium (Promus) drug eluting stents in Jamaica.

• First doctor in the Western Hemisphere to use the ‘Trek’ series of PTCA balloons

• Performed the rst deployment of a STARCLOSE vascular closure device in Jamaica 2009. Certi ed by Abbott Vascular to perform STARCLOSE deployment 2008.

• Perform the rst intravascu­lar ultrasound (IVUS) procedures on coronary arteries in Jamaica 2012.

• Performed over 3000 cases of Percutaneo­us Coronary Interventi­on (PCI) including primary PCI and 6000 cardiac catheteriz­ation cases.

• Involved in the rst deployment of an Amplatz closure device for PFO/ASD closure in adults in Jamaica.
