Gerald A. Gordon to launch fine art book
FINE ART photographer Gerald A. Gordon will launch his first book, eponymously titled Gerald A. Gordon – Fine Art Photographer, on Friday. Gordon told The Gleaner that the seed of his love for the arts was sown in his early high-school years, when he got hold of his brother’s digital camera. It felt good. He took charge of it and started to dress up his nieces, conducting photo shoots at his home.
“At that moment, I realised that this is my passion, and immediately I ran with it as a career path,” he told The Gleaner recently. “I have been passionate about the arts, especially photography… . The zeal I have is driven by the natural creative forms noticeable in my environment.” After l eaving high school with a few CSEC subjects and not knowing what to do next, he decided to enrol in the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, where he pursued an introduction to photography course.
But his formal education did not end there. He eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in general studies, majoring in psychology, with a minor in community development. He also has a diploma in photography.
Now, with over 12 years of experience as a photographer, the creative director of Gerald A. Gordon Photography said, “The range of my portfolio speaks to the excellence that I provide in every moment, with every encounter, capturing your precious memories and produced at the best quality.
“As an artist, I’m heavily inspired by other fine art photographers who tell stories through the eyes of their camera lenses. This impacts my work in a great way and helps to shape me [into] the type of photographer I am today.” He captures life-changing experiences, random personal moments, and raw emotions, while adding his own personal touch“to make your moment just that bit extra special”.
His style is a mixture of traditional, contemporary and documentary, “providing j ust the right combination to make your story unique, creative and beautiful”. This focus has been going on for the last three years, when his love for storytelling photography was born.
“This art book is a documentation of my work in time as I tell several stories through camera lenses. My main aim of this art book is to evoke art conversations among people, and also to sell the art pieces to art lovers,” Gordon said.
The launch event on Friday will be at 4 p.m. inside the Portmore HEART Academy auditorium in St Catherine. Gordon is also the founder of Black Men Speak, a non-profit movement that caters to the personal and professional development of marginalised youth.
