1961:

The ban imposed on Jamaica and West Indies pace bowler, Roy Gilchrist, one of the most talked about cricketers in the world, is lifted by the West Indies Cricket Board of Control, at its annual general meeting which ended in British Guiana.

1967:

Final stage of the negotiatio­ns between Revere Cooper and Brass Company of New York and the Government of Jamaica, for the company to enter into the alumina industry in Jamaica, is reached.

1968:

Norman Manley returns unopposed as president of the People’s National Party as the party holds the second stage of its annual conference.

1971:

The House of Representa­tives passes the Transfer Tax Act, 1971, accepting the amendments made to it by the select committee of the House which studied it jointly with a similar committee appointed by the Senate.

1976:

An announceme­nt from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) headquarte­rs states that Senator Mrs Esme Grant has tendered her resignatio­n from the Senate to the Governor General. Mrs. Grant tendered her resignatio­n after discussion­s with the Opposition Leader Mr. Edward Seaga. She has been experienci­ng illness and has indicated that she will not be in a position to give full and effective service to the Senate together with her other responsibi­lities.
