WITH THE 2022 Concacaf World Cup qualifying campaign now over, winger Leon Bailey said he is now looking forward to a much better showing from the national side when the group stage of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League (CNL) begins in June.

The Reggae Boyz ended their World Cup qualifying campaign on Wednesday with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Honduras at the National Stadium. The Boyz, who have earned their second win of the campaign from 14 matches, ended the eight-team tournament in sixth place on 11 points. The draw for the 2022-23 CNL will take place on Monday, April 4, in Miami, Florida. The final is set for June 2023. The United States are the defending champions. Bailey, who plies his trade for Aston Villa in the English Premier League, played in two of the Reggae Boyz’s last three matches and is looking forward to more matches with the Jamaican team.

“I am looking forward to it (Nations League) because I feel like this group (of players) is a good group,” said Bailey.

“It is a young team, and they are willing to learn, and it is a nice group to go forward with, and I am excited about the prospects for the future,” he said

“I see positivity in the team. I see people that are willing to work hard, and that’s what it should be about, and I am happy to see that,” Bailey said.

CONFIDENCE

Bailey also stated that interim coach Paul Hall along with the rest of the coaching staff have been instilling a lot of confidence in the team.

“He has been doing a great job, and we are pleased with what he has been giving,” Bailey said.

Bailey also pointed out that the comradeship in the team over the past three matches of the campaign was excellent.

“For me, I take this game (Honduras) as building something, and I see something positive for this team, and I am just excited to move forward, and hopefully, we can just stick together,” he said.
