Lila Iké releases first song for 2022, ‘True Love’

-

AFTER RETREATING for four months following a Twitter meltdown, singer Lila Iké is back with new music, True Love.

The reggae song is like a journal entry where the artiste acknowledges personal and general struggles, but persists because of the existence of true love.

“True Love is a song that I freestyled almost a year ago,” Iké shared in a press release. “At the time, I was in a very emotional space and feeling a bit low in energy due to everything happening with the pandemic. I wanted to find a way to turn what I was feeling into a piece that would give others who may be feeling the same, some hope. The most beautiful thing about this song is that a year later, I’m realising this song was a personal love letter to my future self on healing and dealing with everything I’m experiencing at the moment.”

Produced by Natural High Music, True Love debuted with visuals yesterday directed by Ayana Riviére. It starts with a curled-up Iké laying naked at the beach, which can be related to the vulnerable and“exposed”state she was in late last year when she took to social media to say people were out to get her. She revealed last month that the situation came as a result of her formally-diagnosed bipolar condition, and that she was on the road to healing.

As she embraces herself in solitude in the video, she sings that despite the hardness and hatred in the world, she aspires to find the light to inspire children and spread the message to choose love even in the darkest times.

“True love conquers all sin. We’re gonna be alright as long as we’re still breathing,” she sings.

As for her hopes for the song, she said, “I hope it reaches everyone who needs this energy right now and that it gives them as much light as it gives me.”

The In.Digg.Nation/RCA act has a promising year ahead as she readies her debut album. She will also be going on tour for the first time since the pandemic to promote her 2020 EP The ExPerience. The tour will kickstart at Cali Roots Festival in California on May 26 and see her heading to France in June for two festivals. She’ll head to Germany for Summerjam in July.
