NURSES, WE APPLAUD YOU

- Caitlon Clayton/Features Writer

The task of treating patients is never easy, but our nurses’ commitment to helping others demonstrates how selfless they are in their duties. Frequently, nurses prioritise the needs of their patients over their own. The well-being of the patient motivates these healthcare providers to go above and beyond in giving therapy and assisting doctors.

THE OCCUPATION of a nurse is one that can be tiresome and, oftentimes, thankless. Between lengthy work hours, consoling distressed families and tending to patients, they rarely have the opportunity to slow down and rest.

Even with the wide range of jobs undertaken, there is sometimes a disparity in the appreciation offered to doctors versus their nurses when visiting healthcare centres. While this may appear to be unfair, and in most cases it is, our nurses’ eagerness to help others, even when they feel underappreciated, is part of what makes them so special.

Nurses are angels on earth, working in one of the most important areas of any society. They are the cornerstone of our healthcare system, striving to deliver the finest possible treatment for our country. While celebrating our nurses, it is important to acknowledge some of their best traits that make them the great caregivers that they are.

Although nurses may not know their patients personally or even get the chance to see them again, they take their job seriously as they are entrusted with the health and safety of these individuals.

However, nurses are responsible for far more than just providing medical care to others. Some patients, such as the elderly, have little choice but to rely on their nurse as their primary caregiver.

Because of their caring nature, nurses frequently become companions and parent figures to those they care for.

Now if that wasn’t a lot, imagine having the added task of communicating with the families of patients. Nurses extend their support to families in tough situations while educating them on whatever illness their loved ones may be suffering from. They help both patients and their families cope, deal with, or even live with illnesses in order to lessen the effects on other aspects of their lives.

The COVID-19 pandemic served as a reminder of how vital our nurses are and the importance of the role they play in our country’s healthcare sector. These front-line employees put their lives on the line every day to protect the lives of others, and they deserve to be acknowledged and honoured for it.

Nurses are constantly informing the public about major health dangers and preventative measures they can take to protect themselves. They function as patient advocates and are the initial point of contact for people who need medical help. When these are taken into account, no other healthcare professional plays such an extensive and impactful role in the lives of patients.

During this time, it is important to note that we are still trying to regain some form of normality while navigating through this pandemic. As we strive to satisfy the healthcare needs of an increasing number of patients, our country’s need for nurses has never been higher.

The title of nurse comes with many responsibilities. However, we can support these earth angels by showing them our continued love and gratitude.
