Our children’s voices matter

- By Dr Sandrica Young Peart & Tashara Young

“Don’t be too busy, to listen to your child.

In weeks, months, and years, it will be worth your while.

You are their haven; they are depending on you.

To listen and give them advice, especially when they don’t have a clue.

Our children’s voices matter, make time for them.

Give them your undivided attention. After all, they are our gems.

Don’t be judgemental or they will resort to someone else.

It may become your worst nightmare – the open pit of hell.

Our children’s voices matter, they have emotions too.

Bottled up feelings, will lead to negative mental health blues.

Demonstrate interest, as they share how they feel.

Don’t you dare intervene! Their voices are a big deal.

Let our children speak, it helps to create a solid relationship.

At times, parents need to step back and really get a grip.

Let our children speak, socialisation and high selfesteem they need.

Listen to them - even if they sound like a cassette on repeat.

LET OUR CHILDREN SPEAK!”
