I’VE GOT MAGIC UPSETS AT 17-1

- Ainsley Walters/Gleaner Writer

PHILIP FEANNY’S I’VE GOT MAGIC wore down speedy RUNAWAY ALGO at the last hop, winning Sunday’s Seeking My Dream Trophy by a neck at odds of 17-1, leaving 4-5 favourite FURTHER AND BEYOND to finish a floundering third.

Attempting to make all in the seven and a half furlong open-allowance event, RUNAWAY ALGO used his speed to take charge early despite shying away from the dummy rail coming out of the mile chute.

Settled by Christopher Mamdeen, RUNAWAY ALGO shook off I AM FRED but was kept honest by I’VE GOT MAGIC, who went in chase a half-mile out.

RUNAWAY ALGO kicked out of the turn and appeared to be stealing home for a fifth consecutive win but was nailed at the wire when Paul Francis asked I’VE GOT MAGIC for a last-ditch effort.

Anthony Thomas rode a three-timer for the second consecutive meet, extending his lead over injured Dane Dawkins to four in the jockeys’ standings.

Thomas rallied 3-5 favourite BIN LADEN in a driving to finish to beat XY SOUL in the fourth event before returning to take a quick double aboard BUZZ CITY LIGHT and MONEYMAN in the sixth and seventh events, respectively.

Racing continues this afternoon, another nine-card featuring the Labour Day Trophy.
