IT COULD very well be called Project 180, but regardless of the official name, the idea is groundbreaking in dancehall circles. An emerging artiste is currently taking a crazy shot at success by a releasing nothing less than a trailer load of songs in a mere 90 days.

Today heralds the roll-out of the project which will see singjay FS/ Crazy Shot and his management team releasing 60 songs per month from June to August.

When FS/Crazy Shot’s manager, Shay Newman, made the announcement a few weeks ago, he kept an open mind regarding the reaction and feedback from the industry.

“We had anticipated that it was going to be a surprise ... it is a bold move ... but it was welcomed with open arms by the industry,” Newman shared with The Gleaner. “We received a lot of positive energy and motivation from most of the entertainers.”

Songs with titles such as At Them, Avoid Them, Cold Feet, One Week, Right Grip, Swamp Wurl, Hostile, Way Out, Bluetooth, Purge, Mastermind, Responsibility, Walk Guh School, Tek Yuh Likkle Time, Run to the Bank, Heartless, Style Weh mi Like and Weed and Run are just the tip of the iceberg and the themes range from love to heartache, to commentaries on societal ills coupled with upliftment songs and gun tunes. As the artiste points out, his style is definitely hardcore dancehall, “like the Poor People Governor Bounty Killer himself”.

FS, who calls Top Brown’s Gully in Morant Bay, St Thomas, home, notes that his“past life encouraged [him] to do music as it wasn’t easy growing up and [he] put his pain in the music”.

On the musical grind for a decade, the 25-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Dwayne Sain McCalla, received a loud buzz when he got a feature in Skillibeng’s recent hit, Whap Whap. With the total confidence of his team, comprising Newman and Theophilus Brown, he has delivered the first 60 songs, even though it meant him “taking up residence in the studio as his full-time home”. The traditional medication for clean, crisp vocals – garlic, lime and honey – has been his companion as he sings about this project which he refers to as “180 degrees”.

“One hundred and eighty degrees means straight ahead non-stop,” FS/Crazy Shot declared. “It will take a lot of work but our mission will be completed. I know I will get a lot mixed comments but I will always be keeping my energy positive and focused. It’s up to my fans to show me their support and with their positivity nothing can stop me, so I’ll always keep that in mind and press all the way. One eighty ain’t no game but [I] am up and ready to show the world that I am made real. FS/Crazy Shot alongside my Team Crazy & Crazy Team is up for the first impossible.”
