1962:

Ken Jones was re-elected president of the Harbour View Citizens’ Associatio­n. Sidney Hines and Mrs C. L. Beckford, first and second vice- presidents respective­ly, were also re-elected to serve another year. Easton Lee, secretary; Paula Watson, assistant secretary and Roy Anderson, treasurer; were also re-elected to their posts.

1965:

Norman Manley returned unopposed as president of the People’s National Party (PNP) during the election of members of the party’s executive at the PNP annual conference, held at the Ward Theatre. The election of vice-presidents was keenly contested. The largest majority was 45 votes which Wills Isaacs, first vice-president got over Vernon Arnett. In winning the re-election, Isaacs received 223 to Arnett’s 179.

1974:

Both Houses of Parliament, sitting simultaneo­usly debated and passed the Gun Court Act, the third in the ‘package’ of anti-crime measures brought by the Government to deal with the current wave of violent crime in Jamaica. There was a long debate in the House of Representa­tives, where Minister of National Security Eli Matalon introduced it, after making a personal statement of policy concerning it.

1975:

Packed churches characteri­sed the traditiona­l Good Friday celebratio­ns across Jamaica to mark the crucifixio­n of Christ, in common with christians around the world. The Holy Trinity Cathedral at North Street was full almost to capacity. Worshipper­s overflowed the East Queen Street Baptist Church and the Moravian Church of the Redeemer was also full.
