KFTL unveils US$50m investment in equipment and IT infrastructure

-

KINGSTON FREEPORT Terminal Limited (KFTL) has invested US$50 million in cutting-edge technology and major equipment to strengthen its commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainability.

KFTL will acquire two ship-to-shore cranes, expected by late 2025, and 12 hybrid straddle carriers to be deployed by mid-2024, to support enhanced operational efficiency and eco-friendly practices. The hybrid straddle carriers, adding to its existing hybrid fleet, will reduce carbon dioxide emissions through a regenerative power system, coupled with an efficient diesel power source.

KFTL deployed Nokia’s state-of-the-art Private Long-Term Evolution (pLTE) network in October 2023, the first Caribbean port to implement such an advanced network for matchless wireless connectivity and reliability. KFTL continues to reinforce its IT infrastructure in 2024 with upgrades to its Terminal Operating System and plans to execute additional upgrades through the implementation of a new domestic and warehouse billing system to streamline customer processes, a digital radio system to boost efficiency and safety, and a Differential Global Positioning System to increase container positioning accuracy, security and safety.

In addition to the key projects noted above, KFTL continues to prioritise people and talent development, building a robust training and internal promotions programme to cultivate a growth-oriented culture. Upgraded terminal facilities, including a refurbished canteen and improved workspaces to support employee well-being, are also under way.

As KFTL adapts to the dynamic maritime industry, these initiatives solidify its position as a leader committed to providing exceptional services and contributing to the global trade network’s growth and development.
