Shoot out in Trelawny today

-

THE TRELAWNY Tactical Shooting Range in Martha Brae will today bear witness to the nation’s top marksmen taking on a nine-stage match to mark the eighth anniversary of the club.

With a minimum of 160 rounds required to complete the match, shooters in the production, production optics, open, and standard categories will engage in what is expected to be fierce battles for top honours.

The likes of Jamaica’s most consistent handgun shooter, Ryan Bramwell, Andre Odman, Petrano Belafonte and Matthew Smith-Barrett from the Jamaica Rifle Association are known to bully their way on to the podium of these competitions with their custommade guns, designed for speed shooting.

However, the nimble moving Garfield Williams, production boss Rohan Wallace, Josimar Clarke and Troy Foreman, all from the western end of the Island, are lying in ambush for the Kingstonians in an effort to make the smooth highway journey back to the Corporate Area more uncomfortable.

Spectators attending the event should be in for excitement as these shooters will, for a few hours, turn good friendships into rivalry in a bid to earn bragging rights.

Range manager Charlton Vanriel says the club has grown leaps and bound over the past eight years.

Nestled in what can be easily described as the wilderness of Martha Brae, the facility is not only a nursery for rising stars in the sport but provides training for licensed firearm holders.

According to Vanriel, the Trelawny Tactical Shooting Range (TTSR) is an approved sport shooting facility that, at its core, has been engaged in the promotion of safe and responsible firearm handling by licensed firearm holders in a family-friendly environment for more than eight years.

TTSR has an active membership of 75 and is approved locally by the Firearms Licensing Authority (FLA) and affiliated internationally with the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC).

Based on approval by the FLA, TTSR facilitates and conducts competence training for successful FLA firearm applicants and hosts the competence exams at its facility. TTSR has resident FLA approved trainers who conduct the competence training as well as Safe Use and Handling required by all licensed firearm holders every five years.

In addition, TTSR also provides tactical training courses for private security companies and individual licensed firearm holders.

TTSR also promotes the sport of practical shooting in Jamaica and is the home of several sport shooting matches annually.
