Carlington Sinclair finds joy transformi­ng lives as a personal trainer

AS A seasoned athlete, Carlington Sinclair went from playing football to doing field events like javelin, shot put and discus at the championsh­ip level. After receiving a scholarshi­p to attend the University for Technology (UTech), he studied sports and science. It was there that he discovered his love for the gym and a passion for a new profession: personal training.

“Doing my degree influenced my decision to become a personal trainer. I wanted to understand the body and how it works, in order to get the strength and the right components to reach peak performanc­es. But the real inspiratio­n came from the desire to help people become their best selves,” Sinclair told Lifestyle.

Practising for almost six years, he explained that although he wasn’t employed to a gym or fitness facility, he was always able to assist others on their wellness journey, either by the UTech gym or at their homes.

“The reception I have gotten from people has been phenomenal so far,” he said, adding, “People seem to like my personalit­y and the service I offer. I don’t allow them to leave without feeling empowered, motivated and confident within themselves.”

As part of the package deal, Sinclair has got in the business of massage therapy, so that he could help people relax as well, “Massage therapy came as an extension of my personal training and the code I govern my business with; as a tool used to manipulate muscles to work efficientl­y.

The process also aids in helping athletes, fitness enthusiast­s, and gym experts to have better circulatio­n of joints, improve range of motion and flexibilit­y, push through rigorous daily routines, and even have better quality of sleep. Once you are relaxed, the body can do wonders.”

Supporting his clients mentally, physically, and emotionall­y, Sinclair goes by the name ‘Prezzifitn­ess’ these days and he has joined health forces with HD Physio, catering to a host of wellness needs. Together, they offer physiother­apy, massage therapy, personal training and rehabilita­tion service.

He recently embarked on a new venture called ‘Travel Fit’, which is geared towards visiting different locations to workout. The great part is that attendees are able to bask in the bliss of the beautiful sceneries while exercising.

Describing his training style as observant, detailed, transparen­t, compassion­ate, fun and educationa­l, the fitness coach ensures that he upholds the standard of good communicat­ion and good customer service.

“I encourage my clients through constant motivation and letting them feel appreciate­d through their efforts that they have been exerting. Having compassion as a trainer makes them enjoy the journey even more, and making them feel loved [allows] them to enjoy every session.”

As a trainer, Sinclair says he acts as his clients’ accountabi­lity partner, motivator, and educator, helping them to create a holistic goal surroundin­g their lifestyle through fitness.

“I love the flexibilit­y that training gives. I feel extraordin­ary when each client hit their milestone. Seeing the joy and excitement on their faces give me a level of accomplish­ment. It pushes me to learn more and to be the best trainer and mentor for others out there,” he said.

For those going on their health and fitness journey for the first time, Sinclair’s advice is to get started as soon as possible, “You should not wait to start; get going now. Most of what we do are habitual, and habits –especially bad ones– can be treated with baby steps in the right direction, as well as consistenc­y. There’s nothing you can’t do if your body is functionin­g properly, so this journey is worth it. If you can, set attainable goals and take the changes in stages, [plus] you can always speak to a personal trainer.”
