GENERAL SECRETARY of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Dennis Chung says Frazsiers Whip’s qualification to the firstever CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup is a massive achievement for women’s football in Jamaica.

Frazsiers Whip earned automatic qualification to the group stages of the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup season by virtue of winning the 202223 Jamaica Women’s Premier League.

Chung applauded their achievement and hailed their qualification as a positive sign for Jamaica’s development in women’s football.

“It’s a huge accomplishment,” he said.

“Congrats to Frazsiers Whip, congrats to the coaching staff, congrats to the management and the women involved. The JFF is very grateful for the effort that the clubs put out. It shows the tenacity and it shows the will of these players.

“We’re going to support them as much as we can,” he added.

Chung said Frazsiers Whip’s achievement has also infused new excitement into the women’s Premier League as other clubs have seen the qualification as added motivation.

The current women’s Premier League season has been plagued with difficulties with three teams opting out of the league.

Chung said despite this season’s setbacks, the opportunity to play in the Champions Cup is proof the women’s league needed to get under way.

“Frazsiers Whip has done well and what it has done is that it has generated excitement amongst other teams. I’ve spoken to some of them and they are asking what do they have to do to get to the position that Frazsiers Whip is in. That’s the sort of thing we wanted to happen when we said let’s go ahead with the league even though it was not smooth sailing.”

According to Chung, the JFF had been contacted by CONCACAF last year regarding the possibility of choosing a Jamaican club to compete in the Champions Cup.

He said with the decision having now been made, the JFF will pledge their support towards Frazsiers Whip’s historic campaign in the regional competition.

“I think CONCACAF would have looked far and wide. In fact, last year they had spoken to us about it and said they were going to look around at the various countries in the region and we’re happy that they chose a team from Jamaica.

“We’re going to support them as much as we can. We would certainly encourage them by helping them with their team development and helping them prepare themselves for the championship, so of course they’ll have our support.”
