MRS SHIRLEY HALL

Almost five decades of excellence in nation-building

-

MRS SHIRLEY Hall! (teacher extraordinaire) began her teaching journey in 1975 as an intern at Bell Castle Primary School in Portland after she graduated from Shortwood Teachers’ College. After completing internship, she joined the staff at Port Morant Primary School in St Thomas in 1977 where she prepared the grade six students for Common Entrance and later GSAT. At Port Morant Primary School, she was a senior teacher and also acted as viceprincipal. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from UWI. She retired from the classroom in 2014.

Her retirement was short-lived as her love for teaching and the satisfaction that she gets from seeing her students excel saw her returning to the classroom a year later. She joined the Providence Kindergarten and Preparatory School family in 2015 and has been the grade six teacher since. She is called the ‘finisher’ at Providence because of her unique way of delivery and getting the students to pass for some of the most prestigious high schools in Jamaica.

A past student of Mrs Hall remembers some of her sayings: “Opportunities are never lost; someone will take the one you missed; don’t let anyone take your seat in grade seven” and “I can take you to the fountain of knowledge, but I can’t force you to drink.”

She is a stalwart educator whose dedication to excellence has contributed to Providence Kindergarten being one of the topperforming schools in St Thomas presently.

Thank you, Mrs Hall, for almost 50 years of nation-building. We salute you!

She is a stalwart educator whose dedication to excellence has contributed to Providence Kindergarten being one of the top performing school in St Thomas presently.
